About Hereford

Hereford is a cathedral city, civil parish and county town of Herefordshire, England. It lies on the River Wye, approximately 16 miles east of the border with Wales, 21 miles southwest of Worcester, and 23 miles northwest of Gloucester. With a population of 54,842 people, it is the largest settlement in the county.

The name "Hereford" is said to come from the Anglo Saxon "here", an army or formation of soldiers, and the "ford", a place for crossing a river. If this is the origin it suggests that Hereford was a place where a body of armed men forded or crossed the Wye.

Gliffaes Hotel

Gliffaes makes the ideal base for you to explore this magic part of the Brecon Beacons National Park, South Wales. The snow has all but left the tops of the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains and the snow drops are out in the garden. Alternatively, you may wish for nothing more than a lazy lunch in the sunny conservatory with a bottle of wine, followed by a walk along the river and afternoon tea. Then round off the day with a drink by the fire, great dinner and early bed; heaven.

We understand all this, which is why we make it our mission to ensure that you leave here feeling a whole lot better than when you checked in. Come and enjoy our hospitality and you will find out why scores of our guests come back for more every year.
