About Chesterfield

Chesterfield is a market town and a borough of Derbyshire, England. It lies north of the city of Derby, on a confluence of the rivers Rother and Hipper. Including Staveley, the population (2001) is 100,879, although that of the town itself is 70,260. It is Derbyshire's largest town, although the county town of Derbyshire is Matlock in the Derbyshire Dales. Around 250,000 people live in the immediate area nearby including Dronfield, Bolsover, Staveley, Shirebrook and Clay Cross. It is located on the A61, 6 miles from the M1 (via the A617 to J29 and A632 to J29A), and forms part of the Sheffield City Region.

The Maynard

Peak District hotel and restaurant, The Maynard, was refurbished in March 2008 to become one of the best independent hotels in the Peak District. The building dates back over 100 years and during the refurbishment we have tried to respect this heritage whilst at the same time bringing the accommodation up to 21st century contemporary standards.

Whirlowbrook Hall

Whirlowbrook Hall was built in 1906 as the family home of Sir Walter Benton-Jones, a leading industrialist in the city. It is located around five miles south west of Sheffield city centre, close to the county border of Derbyshire and on the edge of the Peak District National Park on the Sheffield-Hathersage A635.It stands in 39 acres of landscaped gardens which are open to the public, as is the café attached to the Hall.
